Client Onboarding

The Domain Part. Everyone Hates This Part.

You're not bad at computers. This stuff is just badly designed. Pick where you bought your domain below and I'll walk you through it. Five minutes, tops.

The fastest way on every one of these: add me as a manager on your domain and I'll handle the rest. You keep ownership. I just get the keys to do the technical stuff. Your domain stays yours. Always.

Where did you buy your domain?

GoDaddy

Fastest: add me as a delegate

  1. Log in at godaddy.com. Tap your name (top right), then Account Settings.
  2. Tap Delegate Access.
  3. Under "People who can access my account," tap Invite to Access.
  4. Name: Will Ray. Email: will@techdadmedia.com.
  5. Access level: Products, Domains & Purchase (or "Domains" if you see it). Send the invite.
  6. Text me that you sent it. Done. I take it from there.

Roughly what GoDaddy's invite screen looks like. Yours may word it slightly differently. Same idea.

Prefer to do it yourself?

In GoDaddy: My Products → Domains → your domain → DNS → Nameservers → Change Nameservers. Pick "I'll use my own nameservers." Then text me and I'll send you the two lines to paste. Takes effect within a few hours.

Namecheap

Fastest: share domain access with me

  1. Log in at namecheap.com. Go to Domain List, tap Manage next to your domain.
  2. Open the Sharing & Transfer tab.
  3. Under "Share Access," enter will@techdadmedia.com and send the invite.
  4. Text me that you sent it. That's the whole job.

Roughly what Namecheap's sharing tab looks like. Same idea even if the wording shifts.

Prefer to do it yourself?

Domain List → Manage → on the Domain tab find Nameservers. Switch the dropdown to Custom DNS. Text me and I'll send you the two lines to paste in.

Squarespace (including old Google Domains)

Bought your domain from Google? Google handed all of those to Squarespace in 2023. Your domain lives at squarespace.com now, same login email.

Fastest: invite me as a domain manager

  1. Log in at account.squarespace.com and open Domains.
  2. Tap your domain, then Permissions (sometimes under Settings).
  3. Tap Invite Domain Manager and enter will@techdadmedia.com.
  4. Send it, then text me. Done.

Roughly what Squarespace's permissions screen looks like.

Prefer to do it yourself?

Domains → your domain → DNS → Nameservers → Use Custom Nameservers. Text me for the two lines to paste.

Hostinger

Good news. That's where I build. This one's the easiest of the bunch.

Share access with me

  1. Log in at hostinger.com. Tap your profile (top right), then Account Sharing.
  2. Tap Share access and enter will@techdadmedia.com.
  3. Scope: your domain is plenty. Full account works too if that's simpler.
  4. Text me that it's sent. I handle everything else.

Roughly what Hostinger's sharing screen looks like.

Wix

Fastest: add me as a collaborator

  1. Log in at wix.com. Open your site's dashboard, then Settings → Roles & Permissions.
  2. Tap Invite People. Email: will@techdadmedia.com. Role: Co-Admin (domain access needs it).
  3. Send the invite, text me, you're done.

Roughly what Wix's invite screen looks like.

Prefer to do it yourself?

Wix dashboard → Settings → Domains → your domain → the three-dot menu → Transfer away from Wix or Manage DNS depending on your plan. Wix buries this one, honestly. Texting me first will save you a headache.

Cloudflare

If your site's nameservers point to Cloudflare, that's usually a second login layered on top of wherever you actually bought the domain, added at some point for free security/speed. It's a different account from your registrar, so check for it separately.

Fastest: invite me as a member

  1. Log in at dash.cloudflare.com.
  2. Click Manage Account (left sidebar), then Members.
  3. Click Invite. Email: will@techdadmedia.com.
  4. Role: Administrator. Scope it to just this domain if you're given the option.
  5. Send it, text me, done.

Roughly what Cloudflare's member invite screen looks like.

Can't find a login?

It's easy to forget this one exists, since it usually only gets set up once and never touched again. Try Forgot password at dash.cloudflare.com using your business email. If an account with this domain exists, that'll surface it. Still nothing? Call me and we'll sort it out together.

Prefer to do it yourself?

Since you're already on Cloudflare, there's no nameserver change needed, just a DNS record. Open your domain → DNS → Records. Text me and I'll send you the exact record to add or edit.

No idea where you bought it? Normal.

Most people bought their domain years ago and haven't thought about it since. Two ways to find out:

  1. Search your email for your domain name. The receipt tells you who you bought it from.
  2. Or go to lookup.icann.org, type in your domain, and look for the "Registrar" line.

Found it? Pick that button above. Still stuck? Call me and we'll do it together on the phone. This is a five minute job with two sets of eyes.

Stuck anywhere on this page?

Don't fight it alone. Call me and we'll knock it out together in five minutes.
